Founded in 1959, Boy Scout Troop 9 has proudly served the Burncoat and Greendale neighborhoods of Worcester for more than six decades. During that time, we have delivered the Scouting program to over 2,000 young men ages 11–17, helping them grow into confident, capable, and community-minded leaders.
Troop 9 is part of the Boy Scouts of America and is guided by dedicated adult volunteers from across the Worcester community and beyond. Many of our leaders have deep local roots, including connections to the historic Norton Company. Our leadership team brings nearly 180 years of combined Scouting experience, continuing a tradition of stability that has seen only seven Scoutmasters serve our troop over more than 60 years.
Our Program
Troop 9 delivers a well-rounded Scouting experience built on:
-
Outdoor Adventure – We camp at least one weekend each month and participate in a full week of summer camp every year. Scouts also have opportunities for high-adventure activities that challenge them to grow in confidence and resilience.
-
Leadership Development – Scouts learn to lead by doing. Our youth-led structure empowers them to plan activities, make decisions, and take responsibility.
-
Service to Others – Giving back is at the heart of Scouting. Troop 9 Scouts have contributed hundreds of hours of community service to local nonprofit organizations and environmental projects throughout Worcester.
-
Character & Values – We emphasize the principles of the Scout Oath and Law, helping young people build integrity, respect, and a strong moral foundation.
A Troop That Reflects Our Community
Our Scouts come from diverse backgrounds that reflect the rich character of the Worcester community. Each Scout brings unique talents, perspectives, and experiences that strengthen our troop and enrich the program for everyone.
For more than 65 years, Troop 9 has been a steady and positive presence in the Burncoat/Greendale neighborhood. We are proud of our history and excited about the future.
