About Troop 9 – 60 Years of Scouting!

Boy Scout Troop 9 has been established in the Burncoat/Greendale neighborhood of Worcester since 1959, and has provided the Scouting program to more than 2,000 youths ages 11 – 17 in that time span. Our adult volunteers come from all segments of the Worcester community and beyond, and many of them have their roots as Norton Company employees . Our volunteers impart the Scouting values and code of ethics upon our youth while at the same time teaching them Scouting skills through our program of outdoor camping and high adventure. We provide a minimum of one night of camping each month, and a summer camp experience of seven days and nights each year. Our Scouts are also taught the value of helping others, and have performed hundreds of hours of community service for area non- profit organizations as well as environmentally-oriented projects. Our Troop will observe its’ 60th anniversary this year!. Over the course of our history we have been a stable force in the neighborhood, with only six Scoutmasters serving 60 years cumulatively. Our current adult leadership possesses nearly 180 years of collective Scouting experience, and our current Scoutmaster and senior Assistant Scoutmaster have been in Scouting since 1967 – all of that time with Troop 9. Thus, our Troop has proven their sustained commitment to the community and we look forward to a long and productive future in the Burncoat/Greendale neighborhood. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Scoutmaster John Atlas can be reached directly at Scoutmaster.Troop9@gmail.com. Also chcck out our Facebook page /Troop 9 BSA
